Teaching During Election Season is Fun

Except it’s not.

Two 4th graders came into my classroom today wanting to have a political debate.

“Ms. Evans, who are you voting for?”

“I can’t tell you.” (Both on principle and because I don’t want to be accused of indoctrination especially since I haven’t officially joined the union yet.)

“Wait. What? Why can’t you tell us?”

“You’re supposed to keep who you vote for private. It’s like a secret. You just don’t talk about who you’re voting for.”
